The 3rd International Conference on “Sustainable and Emerging Technologies for Smart Manufacturing” 2026
The Third International Conference on “Sustainable and Emerging Technologies for Smart Manufacturing” (SETSM 2026) was held on April 15 and 16 at Hanoi University of Industry. Representatives from Hanoi University of Industry were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dong - Vice Rector, Dr. Nguyen Van Thien - Vice Rector, Assoc. Prof. Trinh Trong Chuong - Department of Science and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Tien Dung - Headmaster of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, and other members.

Distinguished guests included Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Lap - Vice President of the Automotive - Mechanical Engineering Association, as well as keynote speakers, authors, scientists, and lecturers from Hanoi University of Industry.
Driven by the goal of connecting global knowledge and advancing innovation in smart manufacturing, this year’s Conference achieved a significant milestone by attracting over 230 scientific papers from 14 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Serbia, India, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Russia, Taiwan, Japan, France, Malaysia, China, Italy, and Vietnam.

Speaking at the opening, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dong, Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), expressed his honor at HaUI's hosting of the 3rd International Conference in SETSM. In the global integration trend, this organization has played an important role in facilitating cooperation, academic exchange, and the search for new research directions, especially interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research for scientists. Through the conference, HaUI hopes to have extensive and effective cooperation with scientists, higher education institutions, and domestic and international enterprises.
In the plenary session, four keynote speakers presented their scientific reports on typical research directions in smart manufacturing and emerging technologies.

Prof. Bui Van Ga, University of Da Nang, Vietnam, made the first speech on “Integrating Biomass into Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems for Power Generation and E-Fuel Production.”

Prof. Chen-Kuei Chung, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, shared on “Emerging technologies on Smart Manufacturing and Energy Harvesting for Sustainability Development.”

Assoc. Prof. Giulio Mattera, University of Naples “Federico II”, Italy, gave a presentation on “Machine Learning–Enhanced Certification of Metal Additive Manufacturing Parts: In-Situ Monitoring and Control with Deep Learning.”

Assoc. Prof. Anchit Bijalwan, British University Vietnam, presented “Privacy-Enhancing Emerging Technologies for Sustainability: Digital Forensic Insights.”
After the keynote speakers' reports in the plenary session, parallel discussions took place across sessions and poster areas on many outstanding content and technological solutions in smart manufacturing including Smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0; Lean Manufacturing 4.0; Supply Chain 4.0; Rapid manufacturing and cloud-based manufacturing; Sustainable design and manufacturing; Mechatronics, automation and control, electronic communication, robotics, and digital twin technologies; Additive manufacturing - 3D printing; Automotive engineering and new energy technologies; Advanced engine technologies; Autonomous vehicles and intelligent transportation systems; Green energy, renewable energy, and sustainable energy systems; Smart manufacturing technologies, equipment, and systems; Advanced materials engineering; Advanced materials technologies and chip design; Biomedical engineering; Information and communication technologies.

In conclusion, the results of the Conference affirmed that Hanoi University of Industry successfully integrated training, teaching, scientific research, production practice, and technology transfer. This conference also provided a valuable opportunity for participants to expand professional connections and network, build international partnerships, and promote the internationalization of academic achievement.
